I don't do journals all too often, but I do have a bit of news that I'd like to share about what's going on in my life:
The owners of the healthcare agency I work for have decided to finally sell the company. They've already sat down with a very eager buyer and most likely they will not be keeping any employees (including myself), since the new owners want to start fresh and move in their own staff.
So this didn't really come as a shock to me or anyone else for that matter, we all kinda knew this was coming months before. Even then, I'm still rather bummed since I've gotten to know everyone the past 2 years that I've been working there but at the same time I wasn't expecting to stay for very long. I really don't know how else to feel. At the moment I can't go like "aw man, there goes my steady income", I'll still be working and earning a salary until the transfer of ownership is complete by next year. I've already been tasked along with others for copying and storing all records of the agency. My boss said that there's a very slim chance that any previous employees will be kept so I'm already looking into finding a job elsewhere.
This brings me to the other half of this update- I've thought long and hard about giving commissions another go to save up money in case I don't find another job right away. My last attempt at commissions ran rather short in 2012- I didn't establish any rules or even guidelines for myself to follow and it was just an utter mess. I ended up turning down people because I just didn't know how to handle it and then quietly closed it altogether.
But I believe now I'm in a better position to do them than before in terms of organization and management, and drawing skill as well. I'll never find out unless I try again.
So I just want to put this journal out as a feeler: Would people be interested in commissioning me in the future? And if so, what would you guys commission me for and how would I do it? Like what kind of content, style, format, that sorta thing.
Please feel free to leave any thoughts or suggestions in the comments, they'll definitely help me as I set up my commission info and FAQ page, really any kind of advice would be appreciated
And once I've finished any collabs or trades I owe friends, as well as some of my personal artwork, I'll open up for commissions. Probably with just a few slots to start out to test my system.
